RDSP questions.
Plain answers. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
Ask an advisorAnyone, with the plan holder’s written consent: the holder, the beneficiary, family members and friends.
Until the end of the year the beneficiary turns 49. Some provinces also offer RDSP grants.
Lifetime Disability Assistance Payments (LDAP) must begin by December 31 of the year the beneficiary turns 60 and continue for life. Single lump-sum Disability Assistance Payments (DAP) can also be requested, and Empire Life offers them.
Withdrawals may require repaying grants and bonds received in the previous 10 years: $3 of grants or bonds for every $1 withdrawn. Talk to us before taking money out.
Once medically certified, the RDSP can be changed to a Specified Disability Savings Plan (SDSP) for more flexible access to savings.
Start filing the beneficiary’s tax return at age 17, even with no income. The government uses returns from two years earlier to set grant and bond amounts.
